Lucky Elephants Batik Multiples

Kandy lake, Sri Lanka, 2013

Lucky Elephants

This series has been created in Sri Lanka. While there Kosta visited Kandy Lake, the cultural epicenter of the country.

On the occasion of the Buddhist festival, hundreds of elephants are dressed in beautiful and colorful costumes to take part in the parade. According to Asian mythology, elephants are lucky animals and they are venerated especially by the buddhist populations during important holidays.

Kosta created this collection using his personal improvement of the traditional technique of Batik, learned while there in Sri Lanka. Batik is the art of painting shining silk with bright and luxurious colors. Compared to the original technique, Kosta improved the color resistance avoiding the creation of cracks and giving the painting a more long lasting life.
