Totem

During his stay in Ubud, Bali, Kosta becomes familiar with the imagery of totems.

In the Balinese traditions, at the entrance of the houses people place mythological  figures which protect them from negative spirits. The homeowners homage these protectors with beautiful flower baskets so that only positive energy can enter.

Inspired by this myth and fascinated by the natural beauty of the island and its forces of nature, Kosta creates his own version of these protectors. He calls them “totem”, because they are vertical and long figures. He imagines them as human-like spirits where elements like frangipani flowers, volcano explosions and earthquakes are all combined in a unique mix of forms and colors.

The Totem series is a beautiful set of vital drawings filled with life and future hopes.
