Golden Beach
Golden beach is a real place. It is a desert beach in Northern Cyprus.
Kosta was born in Northern Cyprus before the Turkish incursion of 1974. He had to leave when he was 10 because of the war. He still has memories of those years spent in his original town.
Once back in Cyprus, Kosta discovers this lonely beautiful beach in Karpasia, in the occupied Northern Cyprus. He goes there every weekend to recall all of his memories as a child in the silence of the beach broken only by the sound of the sea and of the wind. He is fascinated by the beauty of nature and at the same time the fact of being there alone.
All these memories become art pieces: his home, his family, the last birthday party before the war.
In the collection two pieces stand out more than others: are two calendars which want to count all the days left before Kosta can again visit Thailand. This country has kidnapped Kosta’s soul and while away he feels the urge of going back in the land where it all started.
